WURHA, the Wisconsin United Residence Hall Association, is an organization designed to promote communication and provide leadership opportunities to college students who live in the residence halls on their respective campuses.
The organizational structure is made up of student leaders. There are five main groups of people who benefit and are involved in the organization: The WURHA Directorship, Wisconsin Communication Coordinators (WCCs), Wisconsin Honorary of Involved Leaders Communication Coordinators (WHIL-CCs), conference delegates, and conference advisors.
The Directorship is an executive board that has been voted or appointed into office by the WCCs of each WURHA affiliated school. Directorship members benefit from WURHA because it is a leadership experience unlike many found on college campuses. Leading state representatives is a very prestigious position that provides great communication and leadership experiences.
WCCs have been elected by their respective campus to represent their school’s Residence Hall Association (RHA), or on campus governance group. The WCCs benefit from being actively involved in this organization. They monitor developments that occur on college campuses across the state. Student issues are raised and solved by the use of the WCC at your respective college or university.
The conference delegates are college students who attend the conference in order to bring programming ideas and improvements to their campus. At each WURHA conference, there is a delegation cap (ie. a school can only bring so many students). Many students who attend WURHA will present programs and/or attend programs. Subsequently, the students will take the information back to their school to hopefully present programs or get others involved on their campus.
The advisors are given the opportunity to help guide student leaders. There are advisors for the WURHA delegation and for each conference delegation. Without the help and guidance of the advisors, WURHA would not be as strong of an organization as it is.
Ultimately, WURHA is an organization of college students looking to maintain or improve the quality of the residence halls on their campus. Through the leadership conferences WURHA offers, students are able to compare notes and get fresh ideas for their campus.
